Mine Shaft straight down to Bedrock

I prefer mining straight down now instead of mining down diagonally and putting in stairs. You can use ladders to move up and down the shaft and once you’re satisfied with the depth, i.e. you’ve reached bedrock, you can put one of those little pools of water floating just above the ground to jump down into. It also provides an excellent platform for branching out and mining on a level by level basis.
